lightning at 2:00 am
a bright crack of thunder
Kitty seeking safety under my arm
rain fall hard against the green
shingles
and dirty windows
of the house
the news is of a shooting in Vegas
a man with an automatic rifle
lurking at a high window
firing into a
crowd
dozens killed, dozens more injured
the shooter himself is killed by
the police
a rich white-guy in
his hotel
America on fire, grieving in sackcloth
rolling in ashes while storms
pound the coasts
millions are flooded, forced out
of their homes
people without power, medicine,
clean water
the President is
cheating at golf
